the green master teacher

she said, "it's time you learn from us, it's time you learned from all of us." i wondered how i got here, in front of this shining, brilliant being of a goddess, or a priestess or a queen. i was not sure which one she was, maybe she was all of them, maybe she was something else altogether. let me back up a bit. earlier in the journey, on my way to the queen, i was visited by a large group of green sentinels...friendly sentinels, yet sentinels nonetheless. they were very welcoming, and without really saying much, they let me know that i was on my way to greet their queen, and they had been told to bring me to her. before arriving at her throne, i was shown a few obstacles to be removed before meeting her, and this was an interesting adventure for me.

a merkaba had descended just above my body, and from the center of it, which was many different shades of green, a spiraling wind lifted some old pain and stories out of my chest, and took it out into the cosmic wind. i watched it all rise and then go...and as this was all leaving, there were many medicine men dancing around me...playing flutes and singing songs of healing. i was so enamored by all of this that i didn't realize just how constricted my chest has been by the blockages of energy, manifested by limited breathing.

"how long have my lungs been blocked?" i wondered, yet not for long, as the green men continued leading me through all different mazes, villages and valleys of green...green sky, green mountains, rivers, flowers and beings...all shining in their differing hues and shades of this glorious color.

finally, we arrived at the throne of the queen goddess. i don't remember her face, but her voice and her presence filled the place, filled my consciousness, was the consciousness. she spoke directly to me, and told me many beautiful and wonderful things. she gave me insights into my life, where i am going, how to use my gifts and expression of my essence. i was enthralled with her; she was so easy to communicate with, she was so gentle, soft and approachable, unlike other master teachers i have met.

"thank you," my heart cried, and i bowed as i walked away, still facing her, until i was far enough away to turn around and follow the green men to greater dimensions and deeper visions.

let's get lost in the call...

let's get lost in the call...
the call of the wild
the call of the soul...
listen ~ can you hear it?
listen again,
deeper still...
whispering to you
across desert lands
those tired places of the soul
that took time to exhale
while the other parts ran rampant
until...
the seeker hears the call
the lover and the beloved become one...
looking for love overcame ~
and those walls of death and life
n'existez pas
and now ~
the call expands,
ever-widening still.

i can't sleep without you...
and when you are with me,
we never sleep ~
how beautiful this sleeplessness!
i join those who serve you,
they sit around the blazing fire
their dark, desert eyes burn
with passion for you...
their cloaks, sandals,
even their skin
radiates a love like no other -
and they welcome me,
"come closer to us,
so that you may smell
the beloved upon us...
and in so doing, be reminded
of why you have come here,
it is for the same reason
that we have come."
the sound of a flute
rides the wind...
spiraling its way across
the sandy dunes ~
into my heart.
"this is what has awakened you
tonight...and every night."
and those who are sleeping?
what of those who -
haven't drunk from your wine?
haven't sung in your choir?
haven't danced in your arms?
"listen to the flute,"
the wise ones whisper
"and don't take your eyes off the fire,
the sound will guide you, as it always does,
deep into the heart of the matter,
wrap yourself in the beloved,
and always wear his clothes."

let's get lost in the call
the call of the wild
the call of the soul...
let's stay up late -
watching the moon rise,
as she drips her madness
over the mountains...

the music biz...

ok...so it has been a week or so since my last blog...i am still sitting in the middle of virtual art (the internet) and making art (the studio)...it seems that the two are becoming bedfellows, as of yet, for this artist, that time has not come...yet.

a friend of mine sent me a link recently about the decline of the music industry pretty powerful look into what has happened to the disappearance of musicians, the art form of creating music and the expression of soul in the music industry. i am pretty sure most people reading this would be able to give a pretty credible answer as to why this has occurred, as we are all exposed to serious marketing...at every turn on every corner of every street, on every banner running across a website, flashing ads are multitudinous.

after watching this documentary...i was left with both hope and a feeling of sadness...hope that i have, at this moment, a better chance than any other time, to get my music "out there" via the internet, live shows, tv and films. and, sadness, because i am a witness to so many great artists who will never be heard, or heard by few ears, because they don't fit into the formula of sales that the four or fewer labels believe is "sellable" music.

a great quote from the documentary was made by Nancy Giles, former New York DJ:
I'd rather listen to somebody in their 30's, 40's, 50's 60's or 70's, that i know has gone through some s***, singing and playing instruments. I'd rather listen to that than somebody who is 20 - [they] haven't lived. and if you're 20 and pretty, what are you complaining about?
there is so much ageism in this country...an overwhelming focus on beauty and money...where is the talent? where is the celebration of the soul and craft of the art of the musician?? here's to all the musicians who are workin' it...living what they love and sharing their gifts with the world...may they all be abundantly compensated for there music, and may more people hear it!

finding your voice...finding your path

in french, there is a saying..."when you find your voice you find your seeing (path), and when you find your seeing (path) you find your voice."

there is a play on words that cannot be translated in english, however, when i was living in france, i enjoyed this saying because of how connected our seeing and speaking really is. the more i speak my truth, the clearer the path lies ahead, and the clearer the path, the easier it is to speak my truth.

i have found that life has many "distractions"...and many of these distractions can be attractive, even seductive, drawing me away from who i really am or what i really love to do. at first glance, they appeal to my senses, lulling me towards something that, on the surface, appears attractive, taking me down rabbit holes where i 'think' i may want to be or need to be, etc. but in the end, i find that it is not what i love about life, it only feigned to be.

as my mind becomes more in alignment with my heart...in other words, the more my mind lives in service to my heart and the "great mystery" of all things, surrendering to what i love...the more at ease i am with life...walking, playing, being and creating with a freedom, i am discovering, is beyond any ideas of what i thought life could be.

diving into the sound of bhav...

this morning i awoke to the memory of a "bad dream"...emotions were heavy, as my prayers of the last week were being answered..."may the conditioning of my past unwind, and may i live freely in the now...and may all beings live freely in the now." so my dream was filled with emotions that i have been in the process of surrendering to source: fear, worry, doubt, uncertainty. i drove up the winding pacific coast highway this morning towards yoga class, and i traced the emotions of my dream and saw how they had wound their way up into my memories, my emotional "reactors" and mental projections. gliding in to yoga class, we began with the yoga of sound, bhakti...sending songs of devotion out from our hearts and voices and into the ethers...sounding out the now while unwinding what has been and what is not in alignment with source ~ source of life, source of truth, source of love and source of freedom. sound can be elevating, healing and uplifting...sound is also ancient, new and unpredictable. sound is structured, metered and spontaneous. om... an audible utterance of this primordial sound produces a sense of sacredness as well as an understanding of our interconnectedness to all life. after an hour and a half of yogic postures, we ended where we began, in the silky, smooth wine of sound. we all sang our hearts to life, our voices chanting an age-old language that is filled with devotional praise. unwinding my body, unwinds my mind, which in turn unwinds the memories and allows my emotions to act from the present. walking out of yoga this morning, the dream scape had slipped away, the emotional past of the dream had unraveled and i returned to the center of who i am, re-membering the source of all things. namaste.
